ABOUT wildwood

Wildwood is a transformative, immersive woodland retreat and community, based on naturopathic principles.  Set in 12 acres of ancient woodland on the banks of Badnam Creek in Hampshire, it's my home and it's also home to Wildwood Nutrition, my dedicated nutritional therapy clinic.  Wildwood Nutrition provides a supportive space where science-backed healing meets the natural world.

My core values of care, transformation, honesty and growth are woven through everything I do here, be it naturopathic nutritional therapy clinics, workshops or retreat days.  A visit to this special woodland is truly a holistic mind-body-soul healing experience.

When you work with me, you are warmly invited to take walking consultations in the woodland here.  Research is clear that spending time in nature is associated with good health and wellbeing.  What a way to start your journey towards better health!

ABOUT functional nutrition

Food is information.  Every bite of food that you eat speaks to your genes, steering you towards (or away from) health and vitality.  Food actually tells your cells how to behave in different situations.  But there's no 'one size fits all'.  We all come from different genetic backgrounds, different preferences and different environments.  Functional Nutrition endeavours to find the right way to eat for each of us, as individuals, to optimise our health and reverse dysfunction.

Humans have always relied on food as a source of energy, health and connection.  But over the last sixty years, a lot has changed.  We now live in a world full of chemicals that we can't get rid of.  Our food industry prioritises quantity and convenience over quality.  Our stress response (designed to last no longer than 30 minutes) has become a permanent state of mind for many of us.

Food should not simply be calories that fuel our metabolism.  Our food should contain a diverse range of nutrients that contribute to vital roles in all our bodily functions.

HOW FOOD AFFECTS OUR HEALTH

There are three basic elements to a healthy diet:

  • macronutrients - proteins, fats and carbohydrates that form the building blocks of all food
  • micronutrients - vitamins and minerals
  • phytonutrients - compounds from plant foods that have special health-giving properties

Functional Nutrition offers personalised interventions and tools to improve your health.

ABOUT me

Hi, I’m Julie.

I’m a 46 year old mum to two teenage boys and I understand the challenges that everyday life can bring.  I also understand how much better I feel, and how much easier it is to manage a busy life, when I make my own self-care a priority.  I encourage you to do the same!

I LOVE my job!  Being entrusted with the health of my clients is a privilege.  Sharing my knowledge to help my clients navigate to good health is what it's all about!

I'm an enthusiastic hobby herbalist - I love foraging in the woods here at Wildwood for ingredients for my lotions and potions.  I feel a deep connection with our ancestors when I'm out foraging for the same medicinal herbs that they would have used, hundreds of years ago.

I have a strong daily yoga practice and completed a teacher training course in 2018 with Steve Harrison at the Yoga Sanctuary in Southampton.  Incorporating yoga into your daily life is transformational - find out more about Living Yoga classes at the Yoga Sanctuary here.

Oh yes, I nearly forgot to mention my best buddy and bundle of mischief, Aero the Labradoodle!

I love hearing from you so please email me with your questions!

WHAT CLIENTS SAY?

KIND WORDS FROM MY LOVELY CLIENTS

"Nutritional therapy was new to me so I was a little daunted to attend the clinic initially but Julie is warm and engaging so I felt very comfortable throughout the consultations. She explained the reasoning behind all her recommendations so everything made perfect sense.

When I returned for my second consultation, I was a few pounds lighter and, more importantly, I felt great, I had loads of energy and my skin was better which was my main priority - I felt good knowing that I was putting good stuff into my body."

— Jan

"Three days in and I can feel the difference already.  Absolute life changer!!"

— Emma
